Sister Mary Anita Bienia, who turns 80 on Feb. 15, is a prime example of the benefits one reaps from walking.

Since joining the Walkingspree / Excela Health’s One Million Step Challenge in June 2011, her cholesterol level dropped from 265 to 149, she lost eight pounds, and she averages 20,000-30,000 steps a day.

The job description stated that the person would be required to prepare food for the needy, be physically up for the task, and be able to walk well. Sister Bienia knew her devotion to service plus her newfound drive for long-distance walking made her the ideal candidate.

Sister Bienia got the assignment. She is heading to Rome.
